Well, just got back from Indy. Stay tuned for my review tomorrow. I did like the Ice Road Truckers commercial beforehand.

Not Speeding to the theatres this week
After careful consideration I do not plan on seeing Speed Racer. It looks like crap. I think I will pass this week, maybe I will catch something else...

In need of rating system
I would entertain suggestions for a ratings system. Popcorn? Thumbs? Stars? Gold men?

I am... not Iron Man
With a plethora of superhero movies to come this summer, Iron Man kicked off the 2008 summer movie season. And honestly, couldn't have happened soon enough. We got our advanced tickets and showed up for the show hoping that it would not be a big disappointment like last years first summer movie Spidey 3.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this film. It is directed by Jon Favreau, Rudy's buddy in Rudy, Gutter in PCU, and Vince Vaughn's pal in The Break Up. So, basically I had no idea who/how the directing would be. Robert Downey Jr. as the main character made me nervous because of the man's past drug addictions, and that I can't actually think of any movies of good note featuring him, Air America anybody? Well, up until I saw the movie, thats about all I knew of the cast.
I went in expecting a good superhero film and that is exactly what I got. It was better than good, it was borderline great. They did a fantastic job setting up Tony Stark, and his transformation into Iron Man. I went in knowing nothing about Iron Man and now I feel I know lots. This is something that all beginning superhero movies should do, and I enjoyed the back story or the arms dealer who see the moral errors of his ways. The story was a little weak, and like almost all superhero films quite predictable. Luckily the weak story was backed up by a lot of Tony Stark creating and testing his suit. It had many of the typical plots lines; friend turned foe, unsure sidekick, and pretty girl. The climactic battle at the end between the hero and villain was one to remember. It was a little like Transformers meets Robocop.
One thing that I was worried about going into this movie was the CG. I know that there has to be CG and that most superhero movies would be impossible without it, but CG can be done well and not look terrible like Spidey 1, or Hulk. To my surprise, the CG in Iron Man was fantastic and that is what really made this movie for me, and made this movie period. It was very believable. From the sequences of suit being put on to Iron Man flying and fighting, it was done really well, with great detail. While watching I got really excited to see what happened next and it made me excited to be there.
As mentioned before, the ending was unfortunately predictable but fun to watch. It was David versus Goliath sort of battle. I enjoyed the spirit of the fight and much like transformers, loved watching two robotic men beat the crap out of each other. Of course though, the lady of the movie helped the hero win in the end. The end, I knew it was going to happen, and the movie was almost over with one certain line said, then.... "I am Iron Man." What the hell? I suppose that you have to say that, but come on... seriously cheesy. For those who didn't stay through the credits, shame shame, you missed Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury. Now this character doesn't really mean anything to me, because I don't really know much about Iron Man or the Avengers, which is what you get from him, but it I am happy that it looks like a sequel is coming.
Opening Weekend Gross: $100.8 million
We have a lot of movies to come this summer including the one I have been waiting for since the release of its prequel, The Dark Knight. Of course we can't forget Indy 4. Get ready for another crappy looking Hulk movie and a Narnia sequel this summer. This was my first crack at a "published" movie review. I will try my hardest to see a new movie every week and post as soon as I can, but again, my pockets aren't very deep, and my wife probably wants to see me on weekends, so I will keep you up to date.
Please leave comments and critiques for me.

Goal of this Blog
This summer I will attempt to see a new movie every week. For financial reasons every week might become tough, but I do promise to see all the big blockbuster films that are being released. For a full list of the movies being largely released please see this link.
I will be back later with my review of Iron Man and some more updates.
